Subject: [SITAR list] Lab Manager Position at Carnegie Mellon University

Apologies for cross posting...
David Creswell’s lab is hiring a full time lab manager in the Department
of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Ideally,
we aim to hire someone for a two-year position (or longer) starting
around June 1, 2017. Our lab works at the interface between health
psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, and health
neuroscience. We study stress and coping, focusing on stress management
strategies (e.g., self-affirmation, cognitive reappraisal) and
interventions (e.g., mindfulness meditation) for understanding stress
resilience processes. You can find out more about our research here:
http://www.psy.cmu.edu/~creswell/index.html
<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http:%2F%2Fwww.psy.cmu.e…>.
The lab manager we seek must be comfortable supporting multiple ongoing
projects and a multidisciplinary team, including a large NIH-funded
trial of mindfulness meditation training for older adults. Lab manager
responsibilities include: implementation of community intervention
studies, coordination of NIH and IRB protocols, facilitating
collaborative research across institutions, recruiting new research
participants, running behavioral sessions, assisting instructors with
intervention implementation, coordinating assessments and monitoring
incoming data, and assisting with preparation of manuscripts,
presentations and data analyses. The lab manager will also be heavily
involved in the mentoring and coordination of undergraduate and
post-baccalaureate research assistants. This job certainly involves a
lot but offers lots of opportunities for making an impact at multiple
levels.
Applicants should have a B.A. or B. S. degree in psychology, statistics,
neuroscience, decision science, or other related fields. The ideal
candidate will have excellent leadership skills, prior research
experience, strong interpersonal skills, exemplary written and oral
communication, and the ability to work independently and as a member of
a team. Data analysis experience is a plus, but not required.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact lab manager Hayley Rahl
(hrahl(a)andrew.cmu.edu <mailto:hrahl@andrew.cmu.edu>) or Dr. David
Creswell (creswell(a)cmu.edu <mailto:creswell@cmu.edu>) with questions.
This is a full time paid position with benefits. Pittsburgh is
surprisingly awesome. If you would like to apply for the position,
please email Hayley with your CV and cover letter describing your
interests in this job and contact information for at least three
references.

Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn, Germany, aims to
fill several PhD positions starting in October, 2017.
This Research Group is dedicated to investigate the psychological
processes of bystander intervention against norm violations, also termed
moral courage (Zivilcourage). Research approaches from personality and
social psychology are combined to understand dispositional and
situational determinants of intervention. Empirical strategies involve,
but are not limited to, observation studies in the lab, comparisons of
extreme groups (exemplars), ambulatory assessment methods, and
multi-method assessment.
We are looking for two
*Doctoral fellows*
Applicants should hold a Diplom, Master or equivalent in Psychology.
They should have a background in social or personality psychology.
Strong quantitative skills and mastery in English language are required.
Applicants are expected to be enthusiastic about the topic of bystander
interventions against norm violations and to conduct research in
collaboration with the other group members. A background in research on
prosocial behavior, social justice, or morality will be helpful, but is
not required.
The PhD position is initially limited for a time period of three years.
Successful candidates will receive a support contract according to the
guidelines for the promotion of junior researchers of the Max Planck
Society. Funding for research expenses and conference visits is
available. There are no teaching obligations.
Successful candidates will be members of the International Max Planck
Research School on Adapting Behavior in a Fundamentally Uncertain World
(IMPRS Uncertainty). The Curriculum of the IMPRS Uncertainty has three
pillars: summer schools, Thesis and Topics workshops, and local
training. The IMPRS Uncertainty combines approaches from Economics, Law,
and Psychology to explain human decisions under uncertainty more
effectively and to better design institutional responses. It is jointly
hosted by the Max Planck Institutes for Research on Collective Goods in
Bonn and for Human Development in Berlin; the School of Economics and
Business Administration and the Institute of Psychology of the Friedrich
Schiller University Jena, and the University of Bonn, Institute of
Commercial and Economic Law.

****************************************
Opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Berkeley
The Building Blocks of Cognition Laboratory at UC Berkeley seeks a postdoctoral scholar to analyze an existing longitudinal dataset to characterize the influences of demographic variables on developmental changes in brain connectivity (structural and functional) and cognitive functioning in a sample of over 500 participants between ages 6 and 22. Dependent measures of particular interest for this proposal are socioeconomic status, early life stress, sex, and pubertal status (as well as pubertal hormone data from a subset of participants). Independent measures are reasoning and episodic memory, and their underlying brain networks. Experience with neuroimaging data analysis, particularly of functional or structural connectivity, is essential. Statistical modeling of longitudinal data (or aptitude and desire to learn) will be equally important. The incumbent will work in the Building Blocks of Cognition laboratory of Professor Silvia Bunge at UC Berkeley, and will collaborate with
Research Scientists Susan Whitfield-Gabrieli, as well as with Professors Simona Ghetti, Emilio Ferrer, and Laurie Cutting.
The term of this appointment is one year, beginning as soon as the spring of 2017. This term may be extended, pending funding and level of productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The postdoctoral scholar will manage a large longitudinal dataset, conduct brain imaging data analyses, coordinate with several co-investigators, take the lead on writing and revising manuscripts, and present results locally and at conferences.
QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Statistics, or a closely related field is required by the start date. At the time of application, the basic required qualification is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (required by start date): Experience with at least one of the following is required: neuroimaging data analysis and longitudinal data analysis. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; be self-motivated; have critical thinking abilities; demonstrated written/oral communication skills; and have a proven publication record.
SALARY and BENEFITS: The initial appointment is full-time for one year, with possibility of renewal. The salary range for this position is $48,216.00 - $52,140.00. Starting salary is commensurate with experience. The University of California offers a comprehensive benefits package for postdoctoral scholars. (http://www.garnett-powers.com/postdoc/index.htm)
This position is open until filled. Questions regarding this position can be directed to Professor Silvia Bunge at sbunge(a)berkeley.edu. Applications can be submitted at https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/apply/JPF01244
Complete applications will include a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information for one (1) to two (2) references.
The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability age or protected veteran status. For the complete University of California nondiscrimination and affirmative action policy see: http://policy.ucop.edu/doc/4000376/NondiscrimAffirmAct
