Clinical/School
Psychology Faculty – Tenure Track or Tenured, Open Rank
The Department of Human Services in the
Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia (UVA)
seeks applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty
position in the Clinical and School Psychology program. Rank
and tenure status are contingent upon qualifications. We seek
candidates who engage in rigorous scholarship that emphasizes
school-based services for children and youth and who can
contribute to applied training of doctoral students. Duties
and responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and
graduate-level courses; supervising assessment and/or
intervention practica; and an active, productive program of
research as evidenced by publications in refereed journals and
sponsored research.
A doctorate in School Psychology or
Clinical Psychology emphasizing children and youth is required
by the start date of the position. A strong commitment to
professional service, leadership, and equity is required. An
explicit commitment to diversity and to advancing
understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups are
essential. Applicants must have or be eligible for licensure
as a psychologist in Virginia. Teaching experience in a higher
education setting related to the training of doctoral level
psychologists is strongly preferred. Knowledge of and
experience in psychoeducational assessment and the delivery of
school-based prevention or intervention programming are
required. Professional experience in PK-12 schools is also
strongly preferred.
Applicants to the tenure track position
must have strong potential for scholarly success in a line of
research relevant to schools to include publication in
refereed journals and a developing research program with
strong potential for extramural funding. Applicants to the
tenured position must have one or more identified lines of
research relevant to schools, a record of publication in
refereed journals, and a record of extramural funding.
The University of Virginia, located in the
city of Charlottesville, is consistently noted as a top-tier
public institution according to multiple ranking systems. The
Curry School of Education is ranked 22nd in the nation in U.S.
News and is well known for its influence on education policy
and practice. The Clinical and School Psychology Program is an
APA-accredited combined program known for producing highly
skilled psychologists who work in leadership roles in a range
of non-profit and government organizations. Admission to the
program is highly competitive, with fewer than 5% of
applicants admitted throughout the 48 year history of the
program. The program currently utilizes a
scientist-practitioner model that places a high value on
applied research and evidence-based clinical skill
acquisition. Clinical training occurs in a state-of-the-art
interdisciplinary outpatient clinic, the Sheila C. Johnson
Center for Human Services, as well as through community
externships.
