A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Christine Larson in the Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (uwmlarsonlab.org).
POSITION: The primary duties will be to play a key role in oversight and execution of NIH/NIMH R01 MH106574, Acute neurocognitive-affective predictors of chronic post-trauma outcomes. This is a longitudinal study collecting multi-level assessments, including multi-modal imaging, in acute trauma survivors (recruited from the Emergency Department and Trauma/Surgery units at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Froedtert Hospital). The goal is to improve acute predictors of risk for chronic PTSD and other poor post-trauma outcomes (e.g., anxiety, depression, substance use) and to clarify, to the extent possible, the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms linked with these risk factors. The fellow will be expected to assist with project management, analysis of imaging and other data, and dissemination of findings. In addition to this line of work, the laboratory also engages in other imaging, psychophysiological, and behavioral work seeking to characterize aberrant emotion regulation and cognition-emotion interactions linked with internalizing and related problems. Opportunities to pursue such work are possible, although the primary responsibilities will revolve around the R01 work.
ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology or a related field with demonstrated experience in neuroimaging. Candidates with expertise in translational, clinical, affective, or cognitive neuroscience are preferred. Expertise with multi-modal imaging including functional, resting state, DTI, and structural is preferred, as is statistical acumen in analyzing neuroimaging data. Candidates with expertise in a subset of imaging modalities may be competitive – a key criterion is willingness and ability to tackle and learn new techniques. Expertise with anxiety, trauma, or related problems is desirable, but not necessary. Clinical psychologists with relevant interests and neuroimaging expertise are strongly encouraged to apply. Fellows with such experience will be able to contribute to the collection of clinical data, supervision of trainees collecting such data, and gain supervised post-doctoral hours for licensure. A track record of prior publications is preferred. Candidates should have excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal communication skills. In addition to contributing to the running of the project, we seek a candidate who likes working in a team, and is adaptable, self-motivated, and an effective leader.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The position is set to start in August or September of 2016, although other start dates can be considered. Salary will be set according to the NIH postdoctoral scale.
