Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
School of Public Health | Georgia State University
Associate/Full Professor – Quantitative and Statistical Sciences (Log#
18-127)
Georgia State University
Atlanta, GA, 30303
Georgia State University (GSU), Atlanta, GA, is seeking a tenure-track
faculty member to join the leadership of a newly-formed interdisciplinary
team focused on the development and advancement of the quantitative and
statistical sciences applied in social, behavioral, educational, policy,
health, biomedical, and communications research. The university-wide
initiative in the quantitative and statistical science (Quest) is part of
GSU’s Next Generation Faculty Program. This program provides new
opportunities for collaboration and innovation both inside and outside of
Georgia State University by continuing to strengthen and distinguish GSU’s
faculty research and scholarship in strategic areas. The successful
candidate will join a unique, contemporary, multi-disciplinary faculty at a
leading urban research institution in the heart of one of the largest and
most racially/ethnically diverse metropolitan areas in the Southeastern U.S.
In their role as a key faculty leader, this individual will be part of the
hub for significant, innovative, and fundable quantitative methodology
research at the University and will provide methodological support and
services to other GSU researchers by promoting grant development, enhancing
the competitiveness of extramural funding proposals, and fostering
publications. A primary aim of the Quest Initiative is to elevate the
scholarly reputation of Georgia State University by establishing a compelling
quantitative methods infrastructure, a coherent research portfolio, and a
comprehensive graduate student and junior faculty training activity in
quantitative methods. Quest scholars will leverage and expand existing
strengths in data science and research computing by providing a complementary
and innovative core in quantitative research methodology, including study
design, sampling, measurement, and modeling.
Applicants are expected to have an outstanding record of research achievement
in the quantitative sciences, including a strong record of collaborative
research with extramural funding support. The ideal candidate will have an
earned doctorate in one of a variety of disciplines, including (but not
limited to) Public Health, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, or
Public Policy, with specific concentration or clear emphasis in a
quantitative domain such as biostatistics, applied statistics, quantitative
psychology, quantitative criminology, educational or social research
methodology, etc. The School of Public Health is the administrative home for
Quest, but because quantitative methodology is intrinsically
interdisciplinary, the hire will be appointed into the academic unit that
best fits their expertise and interests. Prior work experience in a
university setting is highly desirable. Excellent oral and written
communication skills are essential. Rank and tenure status at time of hire
will be determined based on candidate experience, accomplishments, and years
in service. The salary for this position is intended to be highly
competitive.
