Opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Berkeley

The Building Blocks of Cognition Laboratory at UC Berkeley seeks a postdoctoral scholar to analyze an existing longitudinal dataset to characterize the influences of demographic variables on developmental changes in brain connectivity (structural and functional) and cognitive functioning in a sample of over 500 participants between ages 6 and 22. Dependent measures of particular interest for this proposal are socioeconomic status, early life stress, sex, and pubertal status (as well as pubertal hormone data from a subset of participants). Independent measures are reasoning and episodic memory, and their underlying brain networks. Experience with neuroimaging data analysis, particularly of functional or structural connectivity, is essential. Statistical modeling of longitudinal data (or aptitude and desire to learn) will be equally important. The incumbent will work in the Building Blocks of Cognition laboratory of Professor Silvia Bunge at UC Berkeley, and will collaborate w
ith
Research Scientists Susan Whitfield-Gabrieli, as well as with Professors Simona Ghetti, Emilio Ferrer, and Laurie Cutting.

The term of this appointment is one year, beginning as soon as the spring of 2017. This term may be extended, pending funding and level of productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The postdoctoral scholar will manage a large longitudinal dataset, conduct brain imaging data analyses, coordinate with several co-investigators, take the lead on writing and revising manuscripts, and present results locally and at conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Statistics, or a closely related field is required by the start date. At the time of application, the basic required qualification is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (required by start date): Experience with at least one of the following is required: neuroimaging data analysis and longitudinal data analysis. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; be self-motivated; have critical thinking abilities; demonstrated written/oral communication skills; and have a proven publication record.

SALARY and BENEFITS: The initial appointment is full-time for one year, with possibility of renewal. The salary range for this position is $48,216.00 - $52,140.00. Starting salary is commensurate with experience. The University of California offers a comprehensive benefits package for postdoctoral scholars. (http://www.garnett-powers.com/postdoc/index.htm)
