UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies, Tenure/Tenure Track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Statistics/Biostatistics

 

The School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Missouri – Kansas City seeks applications for a faculty member in our PhD program who will act as a research and statistical consultant. UMKC is commands a leadership role in the Life and Health Sciences in Kansas City.  The University of Missouri-Kansas City is a comprehensive urban university with nationally recognized programs in the health sciences, the arts and business/urban affairs. The School of Nursing is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report for its graduate programs and recently completed a federal grant to recruit and retain male and minority students in nursing - efforts that have bolstered enrollment. The state-of-the-art research and instructional building on the Hospital Hill campus at UMKC, places the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the center of Life and Health Sciences education and research, along with the Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry and Medicine.  Three teaching hospitals, the Health Department and several clinics are adjacent to the campus.  We are linked with Life and Health Sciences research on the Volker Campus in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the Schools of Biological Sciences as well as Computing and Engineering.  Research expertise at the School of Nursing and Health Studies spans the translational continuum from basic science to direct patient care, along with community action research which addresses urban health issues, cardiovascular health as well as women’s health.  UMKC participates in the Regional CTSA funded by the NIH at the University of Kansas and in an interuniversity research collaborative in the Kansas City region.  In addition, the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce identified the development of a Regional Center for Translational research.

 

This faculty position will have an integral role in fostering innovative research by supporting faculty and student researchers affiliated with the School of Nursing and Health Studies and UMKC. This is a unique position that emphasizes applied biostatistics. The individual will promote high-quality research by providing expertise on proper research design and assist researchers in ethical and accepted methods of data analysis and interpretation. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers of varying levels of experience and expertise; from novice students, faculty, and clinicians to experienced and extramurally funded researchers. Expertise working within multi-disciplinary teams, research methodology and advanced statistics is a requirement. It is expected that some collaborations will result in scholarly publications, grant applications, and funded research opportunities. The ability to teach advanced biostatistics as well as participate in courses related to evidence based health care, biomedical and health informatics and clinical research would also be part of the job duties for this position.

 

The faculty selected for this position will be expected to: a) maintain an active program of scholarship and externally funded research; b) mentor junior faculty to assist in their obtaining extramural funding; c) teach in the educational programs in Nursing; d) provide service appropriate to the position; e) advance the goals of the School of Nursing and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Strategic Plan; and f) provide guidance in the application of technology to nursing. The School seeks faculty of regional or national prominence to teach in our innovative programs. Accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education, the Commission of Accreditation and approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing, the School values excellence in teaching, scholarship, clinical practice and service.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A national and international reputation in a field of research
  2. Experience in interprofessional teaching and research
  3. Ability to mentor faculty and doctoral students

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Earned doctorate in nursing, biostatistics or related field
  2. Experience working with nursing and/or health science practice, education and/or research personnel
  3. If an RN, holds an unencumbered RN license issued by the state of Missouri
  4. Evidence of outstanding scholarship and current extramural funding
  5. Record of quality teaching and service appropriate to the rank of assistant, associate or full professor
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
