Postdoctoral Fellowship in Perinatal
Mental Health and Psychotherapy
Iowa Depression and Clinical Research

The IDCRC is one of the leading centers in
the world for the study of perinatal mental illness and its
treatment. The fellow will assist on a variety of ongoing
studies, including one funded by NIMH aimed at preventing
postpartum depression in at risk pregnant women. A second
study funded by the Veterans Administration Office of Rural
Health offers online treatment of postpartum depression among
female veterans. A third project is a long-term follow-up of
women and offspring who were exposed to serious flooding in
Iowa while the child was in utero. This project has been
funded by NIMH and the Canadian Institutes for Health
Research. Each of these projects and others offer
opportunities for learning and for publication of study
findings. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work
with pregnant and postpartum women in the Women’s Wellness and
Counseling Service, which is overseen by Scott Stuart, M.D.
and located adjacent to the outpatient clinic of the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of
Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Fellow responsibilities include
partnering with the Center directors (Drs. Michael O’Hara and
Scott Stuart) in supervising staff and graduate and
undergraduate students as well as overseeing data collection
for the several ongoing projects.
The strongest candidates will have a
clinical science background, strong quantitative skills, and
an interest in developing an academic career in perinatal
mental health.
Salary is $42,840 ($3,570 monthly) for two
calendar years. Start date is flexible.
