The Educational Research and Evaluation program is a doctoral program in the School of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, at Virginia Tech. The program produces research methodologists who work in education, the social sciences, and other fields, disciplines, and work environments. The program offers four focus areas that include applied statistics, evaluation/assessment, measurement, and qualitative methods.

The standard teaching load includes two graduate-level courses per academic year semester, which could include structural equation modeling (SEM), multivariate statistics, multiple regression, or a special topic in quantitative research methods. Some of these courses may be delivered online or remotely in real time to students who are not on the Blacksburg campus. The successful candidate will advise doctoral students in the EDRE program and serve on other student advisory and dissertation committees. He or she will also be expected to provide various forms of service to the EDRE program, the School of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, and/or the university. The position may include occasional travel to attend professional meetings or conferences.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate (prior to August 10, 2019) in educational research or a closely related field, and extensive formal training in quantitative research methodology as it is applied to education. More specifically, in-depth knowledge of SEM, multiple regression, and multivariate statistics is required. Applicants must also show evidence of, or potential for, a program of research that includes methodological research on quantitative research methods.

Preferred Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of mathematical statistics and econometrics is preferred, as are in-depth knowledge of, and computing skills for, computer-intensive statistical methods such as simulation, bootstrapping, propensity score methods, and Bayesian statistics. Other preferred computing skills include the ability to program in environments such as R, STATA, SAS, or SPSS.
