Hello Everyone,
Great opportunity for an innovative research/education faculty line at UMD, please let me know if you want to talk about this faculty opening. For one of the available faculty lines, we are specifically looking for a faculty member to join our research program focused on stress in close relationships: https://fire.umd.edu/streams-AHR.html. We have several ongoing projects linked to this research program, and much of my team's published work from 2017 onward stems from this program: https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=dfiYyUcAAAAJ&view_op...

Lots of collaborative research opportunities!
Best wishes,
Andy
The First-Year Innovation & Research Experience (FIRE) is a hybrid research and education initiative at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) that provides first-year students authentic research experience, broad mentorship and institutional connections that impact academic success, personal resilience, and professional development. It was initiated in 2015 and now impacts more than 600 first-year students annually through the operation of 15+ research groups.
The FIRE program is seeking a number of individuals (multiple positions available) to serve as Research Educators (formal title: Assistant Clinical Professor) for new undergraduate research groups to begin in January 2020.
FIRE Research Educators work in collaboration with department-based UMD faculty members to design and implement the research agenda of a new group. Research Educators oversee all research operations including student research progress, infrastructure, equipment, consumables, as well as management of the fiscal budget. They are the primary instructors of record for the courses connected to the FIRE research group and mentor undergraduate students and peer mentors daily in a dedicated research facility.
The position empowers the individual to develop a strong and broad portfolio of experience in research leadership, operational planning, curriculum development, academic instruction and mentorship, and research group management. FIRE seeks Research Educator candidates to lead new FIRE groups focused on their research interests, background, expertise and training.
We are especially interested in candidates who may have experience and leadership capacities in: ● Computer Science (especially applied forms of Computer Science that utilize machine learning, artificial intelligence, augmented and/or virtual reality, etc) ● Biology (any form including but not limited to molecular, micro, computational, genetics, ecological, neuroscience, bioinformatics, etc) ● Geographic Information Systems (GIS) ● Journalism ● Digital Humanities ● Applied Economics ● Psychology ● Social Justice ● Information & Data Science ● Business Analytics Our search is not limited to these research areas. We welcome applications from individuals from a broad range of diverse research disciplines.
New Research Educator positions will be supported from January 2020 through December 2022 (3 years) contingent on positive annual reviews and available funding. The position will report directly to the Director of Discovery-Based Learning in the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost.
More information about the FIRE program is available at the FIRE website: http://fire.umd.edu/
