The Department of Psychology at Radford University seeks a transformative Program Director at the Associate or Full-Professor rank for a dynamic academic program. We have extended the review period and continue to solicit applications for the position. I am writing to encourage you to apply and to consider passing this letter on to former students and colleagues who might be interested in the position.
The Psy.D. program is housed within the Psychology Department. The Psychology Department is located in Radford’s College of Humanities & Behavioral Sciences, the largest college on the RU campus. The Psychology Department’s undergraduate program is home to about 600 majors, providing a solid grounding and broad overview of the discipline. Graduate programs include the Psy.D. in counseling psychology; a master’s program with concentrations in experimental, clinical, and industrial-organizational psychology; and an Ed.S./MA program in school psychology.
The APA-accredited program, established in 2008, follows the practitioner-scholar model with an emphasis on clinical training incorporating rural mental health, integration of diversity, social justice, and evidence-based practice. Students are actively encouraged to develop their research skills through formal publication of research findings and more informal integration of research in clinical practice. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research program and are encouraged and supported in doing so. Area of research is open.
Additional goals of the program include:
* Faculty members are readily available to students for discussion and interaction * Faculty members offer opportunities for in depth faculty/student interaction, active advising, and professional mentoring that models commitment to professional excellence in science, practice, and personal growth * Faculty members facilitate and are accepting of students’ individual choices of practice and research directions that best fit their professional interests * Students participate in program governance * Many courses include discussion components to foster reflective thought * Several courses require reaction/reflection papers to help students reflect on their learning and chart their growth * Supervision is structured such that students feel free to discuss important personal and professional issues * Faculty members engage students in meaningful dialogue regarding personal and professional issues

The New River Valley region of Virginia is a beautiful location that features a reasonable cost of living, outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities, and proximity to metropolitan areas. A new 143,600-square-foot academic building to house our college is currently under construction and will be ready for use in the fall of 2016.
